LIVE TECHNICAL DISCUSSION SERIES
Recently, BIS has published revised code IS 16700 : 2023 – Criteria for structural safety of Tall Concrete Buildings. As mentioned in “FOREWARD” part of the document, the following changes have been incorporated in the document.
a) Systems with structural walls at core have been dropped. All structural wall systems should have well distributed walls;
b) The wind return period of wind for natural drift under wind conditions has been revised;
c) Requirements for maximum vertical acceleration of floors have been dropped;
d) Maximum horizontal acceleration requirement has been revised for residential buildings;
e) A new expression for estimating the approximate fundamental natural period of buildings over 50 m has been provided;
f) Load combination has been specified considering P-Δ effects;
g) An expression for interstorey drift stability coefficient θ has been introduced;
h) The minimum requirement for transverse reinforcement in structural walls has been revised; and
j) The procedure for approval of buildings that do not conform to the prescriptive requirements of this standard has been revised in Annex B.
We have received few requests for organizing the live discussion for the latest document. We will discuss few important clauses of the code during the session. More sessions on the subject may be organised as required from the group of engineers.
In the following registration form, you may share the specific discussion points. The same would help us to structure the discussion.
For inquiries related to sponsoring the events may be sent to email address: contact@sqveconsultants.com

DYN-STR-001: Design of Machine Foundations
we are glad to launch a unique online course (DYN-STR-001) which addresses the step-by-step approach for the machine foundations. We will start with basics of structural dynamics like single degree of freedom, free vibration, forced vibration, damping, multi degree of freedom, resonance, etc. along with examples in the software. Thereafter, we will discuss about different types of machines, dynamic loads generated from the machines, soil dynamics, spring calculations for FEM analysis, etc. We will also address the requirements of design standards such as IS 2974 & ACI 351 3R 04. Finally, we will take up actual modelling in the software for block foundation supporting reciprocating machine, block foundation supporting centrifugal machine and table top foundation supporting centrifugal machine. Detailed dynamic analysis will be performed in the software STAAD Pro and the important do’s and don’ts will be highlighted for the software application.
The course will commence from 14-DEC-23.
