INTRODUCTION
SQVE STRUCTURAL SUMMIT
BIS has circulated draft documents of IS 2974 (Part 1 to 4) for design of machine foundations. With the rapid industrial expansion, the installation and efficient operation of heavy machinery have gained critical importance. Machine foundations are designed considering the dynamic characteristics of the machinery, as specified by the manufacturer, along with the dynamic properties of the foundation and the underlying soil or pile system. It is widely recognized that these dynamic properties of the soil or pile system play a key role in ensuring the desired performance of the foundation system.
Advancements in manufacturing technology have led to machines with higher ratings and tighter operational tolerances, making reliability critical and leaving no room for failure. To ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime, machine foundations must be designed with special attention to both their own dynamics and the need to reduce vibrations impacting nearby structures. Detailed vibration analysis is essential for understanding the dynamic behavior of the machine-foundation system. Field data on machine failures suggest that current design practices must be updated to address evolving dynamic requirements and improve foundation performance.
To cater to these objectives, it was decided to overall revise and restructure various Parts of IS 2974 to meet the current demand of satisfactory performance of machines with no room for failures. While restructuring various parts of the code, it was decided to address the parts of the code foundation-wise rather than machine-wise, except the part covering foundations for impact and impulsive load machines, that is, hammers and presses, where the foundation has to be necessarily machine-wise.

We will cover details of each step for structural design of the pipe rack, starting from understanding functional requirements, important points to be checked in input documents, preparation of structural system, generating computer model, load calculations and application in the software, analysis & design of pipe rack, connection design, foundation design of pipe rack, etc. Throughout the program, we will cover important provisions of American codes such as ASCE 7-16, AISC 360-16, AISC 341-16, ACI 318-19, etc. along with software applications in STAAD Pro, RAM Connection & RCDC.
