STU-STR-001: Approach towards Career in Structural Engineering

INTRODUCTION

In past two years of time, we arranged number of free and paid live sessions in the areas wherein, generally, industry is facing practical difficulties. We are on a mission to contribute towards the huge gap between academics and the current industrial practices.  Recently, We have received numbers of requests from the students for arranging live sessions for the following areas:

We are glad to announce the series of live sessions for the students of civil & structural engineering. The content will be designed which would be more suitable to the students and at the same time the fees will be affordable for the students.

The sessions will be organised on every Thursday (weekly or fortnightly) from 8:30pm to 10:00pm IST.

BRIEF ABOUT THE FIRST SESSION (STU-STR-001)

Structural engineering is indeed a vast area and hence, there are number of different areas where the bright career can be developed. We will discuss the approach towards building the great career in the structural engineering profession. In the sessions, Bhavin Shah will share his own approach and experiences related to the career progression in the field of structural engineering and also few short-listed queries from the registered participants will be addressed.

The live session is designed in Q&A mode. Hence, the doubts/ queries / discussion points are invited in advance for the above mentioned topic. We will shortlist the important and relevant queries for discussion during the session.  We may organise more number of parts for the area based on the list of input received from the participants.

BRIEF ABOUT THE EXPERT

Bhavin Shah – Founder & CEO, SQVe Consultants

Bhavin Shah is passionate about Engineering profession and has total experience of two decades in the different engineering organisations. He is having a dream for enhancing the engineering profession. He completed graduation in Civil Engineering and Masters in Structures from Sardar Patel University. He is having unique experience of working in the specialized firm of civil / structural consultancy which grew as multidisciplinary firm (VMS), large multidisciplinary firm (L&T Chiyoda Ltd.) and owner based engineering set up (Adani Infra (I) Ltd.). He worked in different organisations at different levels, starting from junior design engineer to CEO.

He started the journey as a structural engineer and got the opportunities for designing industrial structures of the diversified industries like, oil & gas, thermal power plants, renewable energy, manufacturing industries, etc. within India as well as outside India. Worked in different stages of engineering like, prefeasibility studies, basic engineering, detailed engineering, retrofitting of the existing structures, involved in forensic investigation for identifying root cause for collapse of the structures, etc.

Later, in complex engineering projects, he leaded cross-functional teams effectively for achieving the desired project goals. Along with technical role, he also involved actively for improvement in quality standards, people management, inspiring engineers, coaching & mentoring, upliftment of different departments, conflict resolutions, etc. at an organisation level.

He has conducted many technical sessions across the country for knowledge sharing. He is pursuing Ph.D. in Structural Engineering and his area of focus for research is to implement buckling restrained braces for earthquake resistant design of upcoming industrial structures as well as for retrofitting of the existing industrial structures.

METHODOLOGY

  • Queries/doubts / discussion points will be invited from the participants in advance
  • In the live session briefing about the topic will be given in the initial ~15 minutes.
  • Thereafter, few short-listed queries from the participants will be taken up.
  • Total duration of the session will be of ~1.5 hrs.
  • Remaining queries will be discussed in the next session, if any.
  • Nominal fees will be charged per session.
  • The session will be conducted using ZOOM software.
